Advice for Those Who watch Porn Videos - Sheikh Muhammad Mukhtar Ash-Shinqitee

The questioner says: I am addicted to watching porn videos and reading magazines with adult content. And I try to get rid of this addiction. Can you advise me? And is there a way for me to get out of this addiction?

Sheikh Muhammad Mukhtar Ash-Shinqitee replies:

If the person imagines the ability of the sight he has. And if the person imagines that he stand in front of Allah the Almighty. And he was presented that day, on the day of judgement and Allah says to him: O my servant aren’t you ashamed? You see the blind that cannot see, and I lighted for you your sight, and you use it to look at what I have forbidden you to look to?

This one sin that the person commits, or one look or one glimpse of a video that calls unto disobedience to Allah. Allah might send His wrath upon this person, a wrath that has no approval after it.

And the light of his faith might be extinguished in his heart because of this, so the heart turns dark until the day that he meets Allah the Almighty.

Oh brothers of mine, sins are dangerous. Sins cause the heart to die and puts out the light of imaan from the hearts, Woe unto you when you come on the day of judgement and you stand in front of Allah and all your deeds will be presented in front of you!

And this eye will be plucked out with the nails of Fire and it will be blackened with the heat of the Fire. Will you then find this pleasure of the sin you committed?

Then the one must ask himself an honest question: Brother ask yourself, what did you gain from this scenes? What is the fruit out of it and what have you won from it? You might watch this scenes, and you might have felt the pleasure of it.

But what’s the consequence? It will be written in your book!

When you come on the day of judgement this book will be presented to you. And in it you find this sight, that you have looked to that which doesn’t please Allah.

The following story has been mentioned by Imaam Ibn Alqayym (may Allah have mercy on him)

They say about a man, that he was a student and he was with one of the Scholars. One day there was a Christian boy and he had a nice appearance, So this student was trialed by him and he looked at him.

The scholar came and saw his student looking to the boy, and he asked him: Why do you look at him? So the student lowered his gaze.

The scholar said to the student: By Allah you will find the trace of this sin even if it is after a while. With other words Allah will punish you for it even if it’s at the end of your lifetime.

This student says: From that day 20 years ago I am still waiting for the punishment of Allah. I had memorized the whole Quran, and one night I slept and when I woke up I forgot the whole Quran.

The person might look to a sin that as if it is a small deed. But in reality its weight is huge. And for that, some of the Predecessor said: ”Do not look at the insignificance of your sins, but consider the greatness of the One you are disobeying.”

One look might destroy the entire life of a human being. One sight.. or one look to the forbidden thing. I am not trying to make you despair of the mercy of Allah, and I am not making you despair of relief from Allah. But be pleased with the good tidings.

I want from you a tear you cry in repentance of what you did. I want from you that you one day you sit alone in your room and remember and say: To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Huge is this loss I have been afflicted with! Allah gave me the blessing of the sight, and I looked to what displeases Him. How many videos have I watched? And how many scenes did I look to? How will I meet Allah?

Feel the sorrow inside you of what you have done until you cry. And these tears may wash away the sins of your life. I want from you this tear in loneliness.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) promised that because of this tear Allah will shade him in His shade on the day when there is no shade except His Shade. And he said in the seventh - may Allah make us and you from them - that one of the seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day when there is no shade except His shade, is a man who remembered Allah in private and so his eyes shed tears.

From his fear of Allah the Almighty he shed this tear. Just one tear.

And I advise you my brother with the second thing and that is to not return to these sins and not to get near it again.

And Allah will help you. By Allah, every time you intend to repent to Allah from something you did, Allah will help you with leaving this bad deed. The shaytaan comes and tells you: NO! you did too much and you watched too many, you can’t repent, it’s hopeless!

By Allah, even if you would drown in your sins from your toes to your head and you has good expectations from Allah, Allah will definitely help you and guide you.

These are the two things I advise you with. 1. To leave the sin, and 2. To regret for what you have done and to have hope in Allah.
